Make a Turtle Island

There used to be a big piece of wood in the pond in our back yard where turtles would sun themselves. But then it went away. So I spent an afternoon this weekend with my dad making a new turtle island.

We drilled 3 holes for pots. In these pots we put stones, soil, and native wetland plants (cat tails [Typha latifolia] and Swamp Aster [Aster puniceus]).

UPDATE: Turtles have been spotted using the island. Today there were 4 turtles on it at once, 2 big and two small. One must be very quiet to see the turtles or view them with binoculars as they scamper at the first notice of human presence.
