Zack Denfeld is a human living on spaceship earth. When his mom asks him what he does for a living he likes to make up funny names. This month it is deep information ecologist, and last month it was network entrepreneur. (An Information Ecologist studies the abundance and distribution of information on planet earth and beyond).
He graduated with a B.A. in Policy Studies from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, but received his most useful education making media art at the Dept. of Transmedia. Then he wandered into a M.F.A. from the University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design where he slept in a gallery for a month rent-free, served over 300 people soup, made advertising about himself in South America and collaborated on numerous fake companies and campaigns that, strangely, become real.
Zack currently resides in Portland, Oregon.
Before that he spent two years in Bangalore, India helping to launch a Media Lab (CEMA) at Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology and conducted design anthropology for a business report on Emerging Economies for an Indian design company (CKS).
His research interests include Complex Adaptive Systems, Information Ecology and Urban Computing. Zack loves to cook soups, get lost in cities, and is slowly learning more about birds and plants.
